Trying to solve a What If scenario

    Hello

I have found myself stumped trying to figure out a What If Scenario. Involving Imperial measurements and Metric I have attached a spread sheet that goes into detail of what I'm trying to do.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    ThanksWhat If Question.xlsx

Re: Trying to solve a What If scenario

Hi, as the C6 cell is filled by user (the header above says Enter ...) it cannot contain formula. Instead I'd suggest you include units recognition in your formula in E6:

    =IF(D3="no",0.3048,1)*D6*C6
    Best Regards,

    Kaper

Re: Trying to solve a What If scenario

Thanks Kaper, the formula you gave me works when YES is selected but when NO is it does not. I need the value to be the same in E 6 if Imperial or Metric is being used. So what do I need to add to formula to perform the calculation correctly when No is selected

    Thanks

I am not able to understand your requirement. Maybe you can try and explain it again?

I have a spreadsheet attached to view...

What Im doing is trying to get a calculation in both Imperial and in Metric by selecting Yes or No in cell D3

When you select YES you will see the content in cell A6 change to Metric an when it is selected NO it is in imperial

So.. in cell C6 you will see where you will enter a value in either Imperial or Metric based on if you have the sheet set to Imperial or Metric in cell D3

In.. cell D6 there is production rates that when * by the value in C6 it gives you man hours that will go into E6 based on the value which is in C6 and is currently only calculating in Imperial

I need it to calculate in Imperial when it is selected No in cell D3 and in Metric when Yes is selected.

So I'm thinking that in cell E6 it needs a What if entered which is where I'm stumped.

I know for imperial you simply d6*c6 and get the value needed in E6 I also know that the conversion calculation from feet to meters is feet * 0.3048 = meters

So I need a What If formulation that will be put into cell E6 that will calculate the same value when there is Yes for metric selected or no for imperial selected.

The Man hours will be the same only difference is when it is doing the calculation in metric or imperial

I hope this makes more since

    Thanks

When "no" is selected your E6 is equal to
    0.3048*D6*C6
while when it is is different than "no" (for instance - yes ;-) ) E6 equals
    1*D6*C6

But when I put the formula into the E6 cell and do a calculation with D3 at Yes it calculates correctly I leave the same value in C6 and change it to No it does not calculate E6 correctly as the number in E6 has to be the same

for example with the formula you gave me entered into cell E6 I put 20' in C6 an have Yes selected (metric) E6 value is 2.80 I then select No (imperial) and the value in E6 is 0.85

The value has to be 2.80 for Imperial and Metric

    Thanks
