    Using indirect

    Hi
I usually use INDIRECT to link to a separate spreadsheet. Is there a way i can use this without opening the separate spreadsheet

    Thanks - this is a sample of the formula =VLOOKUP($F$14,INDIRECT('Data Files'!$C$17 & "$A:$Z"),5,0)

    Re: Using indirect

INDIRECT does not work with closed workbooks.

If you can find it somewhere try installing the MOREFUNC addin which contains an INDIRECT.EXT function that does the job.

Otherwise, if you are retrieving numeric values, SUMPRODUCT does work on closed workbooks
