Separate numbers and text

Hello All
In col A on the attached worksheet are rows containing numbers and text,Is it possible to separate the data as shown in cols C&D.where a number is missing in col A then that row will take the number in the preceding row
eg row 4&5 will take the number 5 from col 3.When copying the number from row 2 it came out as a date for some reason.Many thanks for help given.
