SumIfs with column and row criteria

Hope that everyone is having a good Christmas Eve and in the giving spirit

I am trying to sum the values for two criteria: 1) a date on the x axis and a value on the y axis. However, I am failing miserably. Could someone please lend a hand?

I used the formula below, but it is just returning a #VALUE! error:

=SUMIFS(A1:G8,A1:G1,DATE(2014,2,1),A1:A8,"=Line 1")

In the attached example with the above formula I would expect it to calculate "8"
