    What is in the cells 'between' the two ranges (D3:F9 and C3) ?
    If those cells are NOT numeric, then you can just do

    =SUMIF(C3:G9,"<0")

    It will just ignore any non numeric values.

    In the actual model, there are other data columns between the formula columns.
