Drop Down List Dependent on Cell Value

Ok... this is a bit confusing but I'll give it a try...

Cell A1 has a formula that returns one of the 3 possible values "M", "N", "P"
Based off of what value is returned to cell A1 I would like to create a drop down list in Cell B1 that is dependent on that value.

    I.E.
If "P" is returned then list "P" will become available as a drop down in that list
If "M" is returned then list "M" will become available
    etc...

Then based off of the selection from the returned list i would like to use a vlookup which will reference a table on a second page...

    I.E.
"P" is in cell A1 and drop down list "P" in cell B1 has had an item in that list selected, cell C1 will return a numerical value based off of that selection based off of the data table in the second sheet...

    Clear as mud? Thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the forum

Take a look at the attached, it uses range names for each "set" of values, and then used INDIRECT() to use those values inside the DV

Refer the below links for step by step instructions.

    http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html

    http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal13.html

If you cannot able to do it with the help of above links then please attach a sample workbook with enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

Re: Drop Down List Dependent on Cell Value

I know this is solved but i have a follow up question.

What if i want to use the value that someone copied (or typed) into cell A1?

I have over 1500 values that can go into cell A1 and i want the user to be able to either type or copy it in

    Thank you in advance!
