    Tournament spreadsheet

I am running a chess tournament and to keep track of scores use a spreadsheet where the winner of each game is chosen on one sheet and the COUNTIF function calculates their score on another sheet. However, two of the people aren't working properly (Roberto & Ashleigh) and I need the formulas to be fixed. I have spent a long time checking all the coding there is right but the error remains.

    Re: Tournament spreadsheet

G'day and welcome to the forum,

The fix your spreadsheet. Take out the leading space in the names that are not calculating.

At the moment on the 'Matches' tab in cell L1, you have " Roberto" you need to make it "Roberto". If you did the same for Ashleigh's the formulas will now work.

    Re: Tournament spreadsheet

I already saw that and corrected it before I started the thread; it made no difference. None of the formulas use L1 anyway.

    Re: Tournament spreadsheet

If you have already corrected that leading space before the name, why was it in the attachment. Have you uploaded the correct workbook ?

Below is the formula used for "Roberto" as you can see, cell L1 is used in a formula. Highlighted in red.

    =(COUNTIF(Matches!$L:$L,Matches!$L$1)-1)*$F$1 +(COUNTIF(Matches!$L:$L,"Draw"))*$F$2 +(COUNTIF(Matches!$12:$12,Matches!$A$12)-1)*$F$1 +(COUNTIF(Matches!$12:$12,"Draw"))*$F$2

Please if you don't understand the formula, let the forum know.
