    Icon sets

    Good Morning/evening,
Struggling to get my head around the icon set conditional formatting.
    hope some one can help.
Have attached the section that i am trying to format.

Just want the green tick to appear in the right hand column when the hours in those cells
is less than the hours in the left hand cells.

    Thanks for the help.

You will probably need to use the column to the right to hold a test formula that the icons can be based on.

Then the problem is, if you only want ticks, is that 1 of the icons will be displayed so if not a green tick a red cross will be displayed.

Maybe using a wingding character is an alternative?
    Cheers

    Re: Icon sets

You can easily do it, but only using an absolute reference, so you'll have to manually edit for each cell in the range you want to format like this.

    iconset.JPG

See the attached image, to format cell E4 - you can select 'no icon' if value is > B4, and the green tick otherwise, so this will give the green tick icon whenever E4 value is less than B4.

I have no idea why Excel does not allow relative references for icon set conditional formatting.

    Re: Icon sets

    Thanks for the replies.
in 2007 you cannot edit the icon set.
having the cross and tick is not a problem.
I was just looking for a quick and visual way to see if the hours used in the right hand cell was more or less than the left hand cell.
I thought I could simply have it set up as a formula to say if eg: c3 < a3 have a tick appear.
if c3 > a3 have the cross appear, but I cannot make it work.
    thanks

    Hi Andy,
    Thanks for that.
I found the same question from the thread from 3 years ago so did as you have advised.
    Works well now.
