Converting cumulative figures into weekly ones

    Dear all,

After googling for ages I have not been able to come up with a solution for my problem which is why I'm asking you guys for help.

I would like to keep track of my electricity and gas consumption. To do this, each week I have a look at the meters and enter the data into excel. The meters obviously count cumulative.

So far I have made 3 columns. In column A I have week numbers. Next to this in Column B I have the readings from my electricity meter. Now i would like excel to automatically calculate my weekly usage in Column C, for it to do that it would have to take the data from the current week and deduct it with the data from the previous week.

How could I make a formula for this besides stating for every single cell that is has to deduct for instance B2 from B3 (I might as well calculate it myself if I would do it like this)

I hope you guys can help a newbie out, thanks in advance!

If all of your data is down column B, you only have to enter the formula once and fill it down and the pattern will copy itself. For instance, if your Start Week data is in cell B2 and your Week 2 data is in cell B3, then in C3 enter this formula: =B3-B2

Then, fill that formula down column C, and it will automatically adjust for the following weeks. Cell C4 will show the formula =B4-B3, and C5 will be B5-B4, etc.

Didn't think about using the fill down option so the formula didn't automatically apply to the next entry, thank you for your help!
