    Question Wanting to count students in class

    Hi all
    Wanting to know if you are able to help me; Currently writing up a class register and am want to use an appropriate function across all sessions creating a formula which will return the number of students that attended, for each session. (Which does not count the students that are absent and sick)
    I've tried using DCOUNTA but it wont filter only 'y' -attended. it counts all students including 'S' - sick and 'N' - absent without notification
    Also COUNTIF only refers to the one session date not all sessions if i wanted to refer to a different date

    welcome to the forum, rach123. try COUNTIFS. it's probably best to give us a sample excel file with your desired answers in it. 1 thread that relates is this:

    so say your list of Dates in A1:A21, a single date you want in D1 & "y" in B2:B21, try:
    =COUNTIFS(A$2:A$21,">="&D1,B2:B21,"y")

    You can use COUNTIF in a 2 dimensional array:
