    Searching for names in list.

Ok so at my valet job we have a list of guests that are "VIP", the list for example will be column A. I can run a report of all guest currently with us and copy it into excel. Now I'm decent with excel and I set up a vlookup for the whole name if found to return a YES. However I'm being asked to create something that will search for names that have been misspelled into our system.

The format the names come in is LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME
Is it possible to create a formula or script or w/e to search for say the first few letters in each name and return a yes/no?

What you are referring to is called a Fuzzy Search. There may be many more solutions out there, but here is one that I have employed in the past.

Thank you for the quick replies. Alan I think that might be a little bit too much for me. Maybe ARGK can elaborate some, it looks like a good formula BUT unfortunately my names are in LASTNAME,(SPACE)FIRSTNAME and they want to be able to do something like search for first few letters in first name and last initial. I feel like I'm close as the function ARGK gave me lets me search for the first few letters of the last name.

Alright maybe for some visual aid I have attached the file I am working with.

Column B - VIP Guest Name

Column I - Current formula searching for misspelled/incomplete names.

Column Q - Copy/Pasted Guest names from a report run from our valet management program.
