Table sorting and Position recording using formula

    Hi,

I've been developing spreadsheet for a Prediction League I run over the past year or so, this forum has been a very useful source so far and there was one more thing i was hoping it could help with?

I'm looking to have my league table update when players scores change. At present each weeks scores are linked from individual sheets into the 'Scoresheet' sheet, in the workbook attached I've removed these links for weeks 1-5 so you can see how the rest of the sheet works. What I'd like to achieve is, when these scores update, my league table is sorted to reflect these changes. Players new positions would then be recorded in 'ProPositions'.

I've seen some examples of auto sorting tables using combinations of 'dummy' tables and vlookup formulae but I cannot get my head around how they work. Not sure this is definitely possible for my own situation. I'd very much appreciate any help possible.

    Thanks & Regards
    Shaun

Re: Table sorting and Position recording using formula

OK, so I've done a lot more digging around this and other forums and have the auto-sorting working through a decimal based ranking formula and then vlookup to my table. The only thing I'm looking for now is a way to track the ranking changes for my position arrows, without having to manually copy and paste in the new positions each week.

Looking to do this without Macros if possible, anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks
    Shaun

Before updating your scoring you could copy the current rankings to a static field and then insert your latest scoring. That way there can be a difference recorded between the two.

    Hey cheal2,

Thanks for your reply, that is what I have been doing but I was looking for a way to automate this process so I didn't have to adjust formulas each week to be reading the correct cells, etc. Small job, I know, but why put up with it if there's another way.

I've now come across long winded solution which expands on the decimal ranking system I mentioned in my last post. I basically record all the ranking details i need each week in intervals up to and including the current week. This then allows me to record the ranking position into a table each week. Then using an offset formula I am looking at the current and previous week and gaining the position movement.

    Thanks Again
    Shaun
