    Data transfer

    Hi,

Can someone help with a formula for the following please.

I have an Excel sheet with 2 tabs. Tab 1 contains a data file with Personal information about different people. In tab 2, I have some of the information to match, but i want to want excel to bring some more across for me.

If "Joe Bloggs" is in A1, I want Excel to find Joe in Tab 1 and bring across data from a specific cell (let's say D2) to B1 on tab 2.

Hope that makes sense - sure the answer is quite simple!

    Many thanks in advance

    Hi

Take a look to INDEX & MATCH functions. Something like this..

    =index(sheet1!d1:d100,match(a1,sheet1!a1:a100,0))

    Regards

    Fotis.

    Thanks for the Fotis.

What I'm after is for the formula to move selected data from other cells on the same row relating to Joe Bloggs.

Not sure if a lookup might work?

Pls upload a small sample workbook!

Be sure that all sensitive data removed, showing what data you are working with, a few examples of what your expected outcome is, and how you arrived at that.

To attach a small sample workbook.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

    Re: Data transfer

    Hi Fotis,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Please find attached a sample workbook, as requested.

So, on Sheet 1, a data file will be placed here that will be updated monthly. I have no control over this as and the data / people on it may change, however the layout is always the same.

What I want to do on Sheet 2 is fill in the Employee reference in column A and for excel to then copy the requested data in columns B - F.

Hope this makes a bit more sense!
