    Automatic cell fill in

    Hi all

    I used to work with a spreadsheet that had dated running 1 and down and then categories running A accross. It was to calculate money for each category which there are over 25 of. Accross the top for each category i used a number 1-25 for them all, so all i had to do is go into my second column and enter the number that corresponded with the category and the amount would go there to save having to tab accross hundreds of time. Can anybody tell me what the formula for that is??

    I hope I have explained enough??

    Cheers! :-)

    I would be happy to look into it for you but first could you please upload your workbook so that I can put your request into some context.

    Thanks

    Sure, just click "Go Advanced" beneath the reply text input field, then click Manage Attachments, then follow the prompts to upload the file.

    Hi,

    In cell B2 of the sample spreadsheet that you uploaded, the formula
    Formula: copy to clipboard
    =INDEX($D2:$I2,C2)
    will do the trick. Obviously you will have to change some of the numbers to accommodate the range of your full set of data in your actual workbook, but hopefully this gets you pointed in the right direction

    Re: Automatic cell fill in

    Hi ajryan88

    Thanks so much for that, but following is and example from the spreadsheet that i need to get:

    B2 = the amount that i manually put in for the transaction
    C2 = I put the number that corresponds to the Category it is going to

    Eg:
    B2 = $10.00
    C2 = 1
    then the $10.00 that i put in B2 automatically appears in D2

    Does that help?

    Ah I see, sorry about the misunderstanding, I have given you the reverse of what you want. I'll have another play with your spreadsheet and get back to you very soon

    Re: Automatic cell fill in

    I have entered the formula into cell D2. This formula should be able to be copied across and down into your data.

    Fingers crossed I have got it right this time!
