    Optimal Seal Choosing Function

I am trying to pick a range of seals to keep in inventory in order to hit the largest number of ratios of the seals with the lowest number of seals. I am not sure how to attack this problem, so I am wondering if anyone has any insight on how to begin to solve the problem?

The main issue I am having is in optimizing 2 variables with a large list of target values (every .02:1 from 1:1 to 9:1, with a minimum and maximum seal size of .125 and 3, respectively).

Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Please upload an excel file with some data to explain your problem and fill some cells with the desired results; it's hard to get what you want without an example.

    Re: Optimal Seal Choosing Function

Here is a sample of the data I am working with. The data at the top are all of the possibilities from .125 to 1.5 inches in diameter, with the respective ratios of all seals (the ratios are of the frontal area). Below, it is set up so when you type a desired ratio and tolerance, it returns the possibilities. Seal Ratios.xls

The problem I am having now is whittling down the list of seals to a reasonable number (10 to 20) in order to hit as many ratio values between 1:1 and 9:1 with intervals of .02:1. I realize that these are probably not hitable targets, but the main variable that matters is the number of seals, so the bounds of the ratios and the intervals are flexible.
