    Wrong calculations appearing

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and also to excel.

I am trying to enter what is a very simple formula to work out percentages. I can do it easily on a calculator but because there is a lot of working out to do I thought it would be quicker using excel.

This is an example of what I am trying to do: =(C2/2)+B2/D2*100

The values are: C2=5, B2=28 and D2=38, so by my calculations the answer would be 80.26% however excel seems to get 74.93%.

Does anybody know why this is??

    Re: Wrong calculations appearing

Hi and welcome to the forum....in 2010 there is a cool little tool....it's called Evaluate formula...click in the cell with the formula...click on the formula tab and then in the formula audit group is the evaluate fomula....it steps through what excel does to a formula and maybe you can see why it's not working that way you think it should...

Actually, the Evaluate Formula tool goes back to at least Excel 2003, though maybe not as visible.

I guess the question is, what's really in those cells as opposed to what is displayed?

On the calculator on my iPad, I get 76.1842105263158. 28/38 = .7368421... Multiply by 100 and add 2.5. Looks about right.
