Double VLOOKUP ?

Hi,

Again some problems with the excel functions.

As always, your help is very much appreciated, thank you!


There is further visualization in the example excel, but here is brief description of the problems;

- to the column "I" I want to pick a matching value from the column "H". Pick from the "H" is done, when column
"C" or "D" has a same value than column "C" has in that row, check only columns above from that row and stop/pick the first match.
Couple of examples in the excel file with red and blue background colour.


- problem in the column "J" is similar, but now I want to look matching value only from the column "C". Example in
the excel file with yellow background colour

Did they not match your examples? Or were your examples not good ones?

They did not return the values that I was asking for

That doesnt answer my questions .

It seems that I don't understand your question.

If I put your formulas to the sample excel to the cells that you suggested, they are not returning the values from the right cells

It seems your wants are not clear and your examples are not adequate. I would help but I cant understand what you want.

The formula in column "I" seems (?) to search match for the home team name first from the whole column "C" and therefore it misses possible
earlier matches for the team name from the column "D"??
For example in the row 27; the formula should find the "Barnsley" name from the cell "D16" because it is the most recent match for the "Barnsley".

I had also problems to implement both of the formulas to the little bit wider table which is attach here (example_rev3.xlxs).

I added also link references to the cell names where the data should be picked up (e.g. how the formula should work and pick values).

Hopefully this clarifies my unclear definition...if not please ask more. Thank you!
