    counting multiple options as 1

I have a code on one column and a drop list with 11 options in another column. Is there a way to when the code is used and one or any of 11 options selected from the drop down list to be counted as 1 so effectively group the 11 eleven options and count them as 1 when selected.

I am trying to get excel to count 11 text strings/options as 1 not 11. Can this be done using countif function?
will using 11 if statements work?

I have tried to show this in the attached picture, unfortunately I can not upload workbooks!
    I hope this makes sense!

    Many thanks.

Re: counting multiple options as 1

ok so for example on my spreadsheet there is number 5 and a drop down list to say where number 5 should go. There are more than 11 options in this drop down list. I need to count when 5 appears in the spreadsheet, how many times these 11 options were selected and count them as being 1 as opposed to counting them individually. In other words grouping these 11 options (in the attached pic they are test1-test11) and counting them as 1.

    I hope this helps.
