break apart a field into multiple fields?

I need to break a field out into separate columns based on where the "-" appears in the source field.

example:

FROM THIS

Source field:

TO THIS

How would I do this?

Please attach a sample workbook with enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. The attached test file shows a "Before" sheet and the end result in an "AFTER" sheet. I have some 13,000+ records in the original "ledger_code" field.

Basically I need to take each part of the "ledger_code" field and break up the code into its individual parts. The breaking point are the dashes "-" in the "ledger_code" field

I hope the file is clear on the desired result.

The easiest way without using any formula

Copy your range A2:A8 into B2:B8, while it highlight go to

Data > Text to Column > Delimited > Next > Select Other and enter "-" no quotes > Finish out
