    Excel 2010 - Autosum crash

Hey, i have an 11mb excel sheet which consists of a lot of numbers and stuff for my business, i am having a problem where i have filtered certain fields and am trying to autosum a column; theirs about 100 fields that have been filtered out, and i put the autosum in the cell below all the numbers and excel just crashes, it doesn't even perform the action it just stops working, i cant close excel as it becomes unusable. i then have to ctrl+alt+del and close excel that way.

i can open and save and modify cells etc fine, just autosum crashes the file. it can handle auto summing about 10 fields max. this wont do.

the only thing i have found is manually typing in the formula out like =subtotal(9,A1:A500) etc - this works fine. but i dont want to be manually typing the forumla over and over again, as i need to do it quite a bit.

also =sum(A1:A500) will include all the values that aren't in the filtered out list so i end up with like a sum of the entire sheet, which is annoying.

any possible reason or help you can provide would be nice

    thanks

im just curious as to why the autosum button crashes excel? but when i manually type the formula it would produce it works fine? if they perform the same action whats the problem? apart from the fact i now have to type =subtotal(9, then drag over the values i want)

Re: Excel 2010 - Autosum crash

could be, i have modified other files which were about 40mb but it was very slow, but never crashed.

I will try transferring all the data into a new excel document and try some smaller autosum tests on smaller numbers of fields.

    Thanks for your help anyway
