Sum Duplicate Items in One Column with Unique Values in Another

Hello. I am working on a loan report where I need to know the total owed. Some employees have two or three loans out at once and I need to provide a total amount owed. Attached is an example and it appears below as well. Thanks!

Put this in C2:

=IF(COUNTIF(A$2:A2,A2)=1,SUMIF(A:A,A2,B:B),"")

then copy down.
