Pasting data, but not coming out the way I want. Please Help

I'm trying to copy a section of data and paste it further down on the sheet. I want the same information that's in the formulas, but it keeps shifting the numbers. Here's an example:

This is what I'm trying to copy:
    E52 E53 E54
A.....2.....$0.03 The formula for each row is slightly different, but the same concept:
B.....4.....$0.07 =E53*'Sheet 2'!J28 The formula is where the $ cell is
C.....5.....$0.03 It's multiplying the number on this page and the number on a different page
D.....3.....$0.02 and equals the dollar amount on this page.

When I try to paste it, depending on what "paste" option I use it comes up differently, but never the way I want. When I paste it, I notice that the cells that I paste is copying a different cell from the other page. It keeps shifting the cell, so my numbers aren't coming out right. The "J28" keeps changing to something else when I paste. I want the "J28" to stay no matter where I paste it.

Please help! I've been messing with this for a while and can't seem to find the answer online or on my own.

Make it $J$28 (i.e. with $ signs) so that it wont change when you copy it elsewhere.

    Hope this helps.

Awesome! Thank you so much; that worked. I now have another question. Is there a way to make it automatically do that? When I typed in my formula it came up without the $; I guess as a default?

This is the way I originally did it:

    I press: =
Then hit the cell I want: E53
    Then: *
Then I click on a different sheet: Sheet 2
Then the cell I want: J28
    Then I hit: Enter

This is the way it shows up: =E53*'Sheet 2'!J28

The problem is if I want to paste it somewhere else it will move the J28 to a different cell unless I manually type in the $ between the J and 28. Is there a way to make it always put the $ between the J and 28 (i.e. $J$28)?

use the F4 key to toggle through your options when typing the cell reference

I appreciate you trying to help, but I don't think the F4 key is doing what you want or think it will do. I'm not sure what the F4 key is supposed to do, but on my computer it tries to switch screens, like I want to display something from my computer to tv.

Taking the start of your example

This is the way I originally did it:

    I press: =
Then hit the cell I want: E53 after hitting E53 hit F4 - you will note that E53 now = $E$53 - try hitting it again and see what happens....

    Then: *
Then I click on a different sheet: Sheet 2
Then the cell I want: J28
    Then I hit: Enter

This is the way it shows up: =E53*'Sheet 2'!J28

So, I tried what you said again, and it did not work. However, I discovered that I have to hit fn and F4 at the same time and that will make the F4 button do what you said it should do. Thank you very much for your help.
