    cell should fill with colour

    if A1 is written with value "say"--50 -- and column "B1" is left blank than column"B1" should fill with dark red colour
    anyone with formula pls help.

    Use conditional formatting

    =(B1="")*ISNUMBER(A1)
    Never use Merged Cells in Excel

    Go to conditional formating>>Highlight cell rules>> More rules>> use formula

    and enter that formula there
