Your data is being identified as text and excel won't sum text. When you use the plus sign, that forces Excel to recognize it as numbers.

Try selecting the column of times and going to the Data Tab> Text to Column> Finish
    Then try sum.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Apart from the solution from ChemistB, you can try this Array formula
    =SUM($D$8:$D$12+0)

When you confirm it, you will need to hold Ctrl-Shift and hit Enter. If you see the formula being wrapped inside a { } then you did it right.

    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
