Exclamation Conditional formatting or VBA you decide

Hi guys, a little help required.

I need to show the following colour in a cell but not sure whether conditional formatting or VBA is suitable.

If cell e1 has a value in and cell i1 does too then cell i should stay blank i.e. colour white or no colour.
if Cell e1 has a value and cell i1 does not have a value in, cell i1 should turn colour i.e. amber.
(col e has numbers and letters and coli has text [taken from vlookup col M).

I have been trying to use conditional formatting but can't get the formula to check if cell e has value and cell i has no value then background colour changes to amber.

Is conditional formatting limited to show this or am I missing something to show this and should I be using VBA instead?

I hope this is clear and thanks in advance for any help or tips!

    Regards,
    Cherryt

    You can use conditional formatting.
    Choose "Formula Is"

    =AND($E1<>"",$I1="")
