Text formula to separate words in glossary

Hello. I'm working on creating a bilingual glossary in Excel. I have the text in the A column as follows (example)

Back freight: Flete de regreso

I want to use a formula that would allow me to have the term "back freigh" in column A and "Flete de regreso" in column B. In other words separating after the colon.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Pat

Hi and welcome to the forum

you have 2 options, text-to-columns or formulas

1. Text-to-columns...
select the range, select T-t-C (Data/data Tools)
select "delimited" and use : as delimiter

It will leave a space at the start of the data in column B

OR use a formula...
in column B, use this, copied down...
=LEFT(A1,SEARCH(":",A1,1)-1)
and then in C, copied down...
=MID(A1,SEARCH(":",A1,1)+2,99)
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Wow. You impressed. Here I was racking my brain with formulas and didn't know that text to column option. That was like magic!

Thanks for your very quick reply. I'm excited to be part of this forum as I try to become more knowledgable about Excel.

Your help was excellent.

Happy to help. If this answered your question, please take a moment to mark the thread as "solved" - it helps keep things neet and tidy lol, and consider adding the reputation to those that helped (see points 2 & 3 below)

Hope you read my note though...

Thanks again. I did try to find the option to mark it as Solved but now I can't find it. And where do I rate the responder? I looked through the FAQ but couldn't find it.

Sorry to bother you with this.
