Algebra/Pythagoras/Equation in Excel - Please Help - For Assignment

    Hello,

I am needing to substitue x for a range of numbers (you can begin to see the list at the bottom of this attachment)
What is the quickest way I can do this in excel? I'm really stuck!

Forget the X minimum and maximum, that is just a range of numbers.

    Thanks, Charlie

    Hi
While images are nice, they are utterly useless. Please post a sample sheet

I still don't understand what it is you need. Your attached spreadsheet does not add any new information. Are the values in column A (0 to 6) your desired x values? And then you need to create formula for column B that will calculate the given formula [sum(sqrt(16+x^2),sqrt(45-12x+x^2))]? If this is all you need to do, it should be as easy as putting that formula into column B with references to column A. With the correct combination of relative and absolute references (in case you decide to put the constants into cells for easy editing), it should be a simple copy and paste or drag the fill handle to fill in column B (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...es_in_formulas).

I'm sure I could help you, but I'm not sure what you are stuck on. Are you having trouble with the sqrt() function? or is it writing the polynomials? Something about using references in formulas that you didn't understand from the help file?

Maybe you could post your solution to help other members ?

And if your problem is solved, could you mark the thread solved? (top of page, thread tools, mark as solved)
A picture may be worth a thousand words, BUT, a sample Workbook is worth a thousand screenshots!
-Add a File - click advanced (next to quick post), scroll to manage attachments, click, select add files, click select files, select file, click upload, when file shows up at bottom left, click done (bottom right), click submit
-To mark thread Solved- go top of thread, click Thread Tools, click Mark as Solved
If you received helpful response, please remember to hit the * of that post
