    SUM Function Problem

I am using Excel V14.3.1 on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.7.4.

I have a spreadsheet where some cells use the “MID()” text function to return a single digit number. When I try to sum those numbers using the “SUM” math function the value “1.0” is returned rather than the correct answer of 51.

Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

    Cheers,

    Darra Pharma

    Re: SUM Function Problem

Try putting the VALUE() function round your MID() function. MID() returns text, even if it looks like a number. You have to then convert it to a number with VALUE().
