Points calculations for athletics events

Hi guys

A few months ago you helped me with an athletics program and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much for your assistance.

Now, I would like some additional help.

To recap, the program captures athletes in their heats and ranks them for a final and then ranks them again once the finals times have been entered.

Now I want to add a points system to determine to best athletes in each age category. Points are giving to the top 4 in each event. Really don't know how I would sift through the different events to pick up the top athletes and tally their scores. Only way for my would be to do it manually.

As I reread this I see this could be a confusing question. So lets try agian...

I have athletes that take part in certain events. Once ranked, the top 4 get points (5, 3, 2 ,1 & then if it is a record + 2 points).

How do I sift through all the athletics events and work out the top points scorers in different age cats?

I have no clue. Pivot tables? Please help!
