Tracking "Days Out" with Dates in Columns

I have a spreadsheet that shows a date in column 1 and column 2. The first date is the date I send out documentation. The second date is the date I receive the documentation back. The 3rd column shows how many days the documentation was out to be approved. In column 3, I need to show how many days have gone by since I sent the documents out which will change every day until I get the documentation back. However, I will enter an actual date once I receive the documents. I have been able to input a formula but it only calculates as long as I have that 2nd column date. I need to know, on a daily basis, how many days the documents have been out and when I put the date in that column, the calculation should stop adding days.

I've done this in the past but can't remember the formula. Everyone I have asked says it is impossible. I know different.

    Thanks,

    Allissa

    SAMPLE:

    SENT TO RECEIVED DAYS
    ARCHITECT FROM ARCH OUT
    12/26/12 1/3/13 8

    Hi Allissa

Assuming your sent date is in A1. In C1 enter the following formula:
Enter the date in B1 when you receive back.
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Or, using the NETWORKDAYS function:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    Is this what you mean!

I copied and pasted the NETWORKDAYS formula and the result was 29491 rather than the number 8. Is there a way to attach a document in this forum so I can show you my form?
