Need help with date and total fomula

My spreadsheet deals with production printing. There are several jobs done on a particular date of various quantities. For example there may be three jobs done on 1 April with total paper quantities of 930, 1820 and 1200. How do I take the 1 April as a marker and sum up all of the quantities?

I would like to improve the spreadsheet so it tracks all production on a yearly basis.

    Maybe

    =SUMIF(A1:A10,"01/04/12",B1:B10)

hi BillWatson, welcome to the forum. assuming your dates are in A2:A10, numbers in B2:B10, dates are in proper format (you should be able to change the date format if done properly), try:
    =SUMIF(A2:A6,DATE(2012,4,1),B2:B6)

the red portion can also be referring to a cell reference like D1 where 1 Apr 2012 is.

Thanks, if you have clicked on the * and added our rep.
