Excel Solver Problem with Product Mix Ratios

    Hello Community.

I'm trying to solve a linear program with the excel solver.
However the Simplex solver has problems with a ratio as a constraint. The solver stops as he can't divide through zero. Any ideas how to solve such a problem?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Greetings Matthias

Have you tried setting constraints so that "beans => 1" and "potatoes => 1,2 * beans"

Your constraint with the issue is potatoes/greenbeans >= 1.2. The problem is greenbeans is a variable and if it approaches zero there are numerical problems.

However, this is easily corrected by expressing the constraint in a slightly different manner. If you multiply both sides of the constraint by greenbeans the constraint becomes potatoes >= 1.2 * greenbeans. This constraint is mathematically equivalent but is now linear with no divide by zero issues.
