SUMIF/VLOOKUP/COUNTIF type formula needed

Hi there,

I am trying to achieve the following but not quite sure how to achieve it, hopefully some of you can help me out?

- In column A there are a long list of words consisting of only a handful of choices, for example lets use "APPLE", "BANANA", "PEAR" and "ORANGE".
- In column B are a list of numbers.

In column C I wish to lookup all occurences in column A of "BANANA" and then SUM the figures for each occurence shown adjacent in column B

Is this possible and if so how do I do it without the use of VBA?

That is a SUMIF.

=SUMIF(A:A, "BANANA", "B:B")
