Formula bar = not working for connecting workbooks only copy paste link working how the..

Dear Anyone,

I was very happy with my XP MS excel 2003. Then I switched jobs and came into contact with MS excel 2010.
Looked nice but had to start over with learning where I could find the buttons.
THANK GOD they didnt touch VBS.

Now for some odd reason I can not link workbooks by using = in the formula bar and then move to another workbook and then click on some cell and tadaaaaaa the whole path should be in the formula bar. Instead it does nothing and just stays =. I can only copy paste workbook links.

In the workbook itself it does work between sheets. My colleague tried it in different workbooks and it does work for him. So I persume its some kind of setting which I can not find. I have spend about 4 hours straight on Google and cursing at excel that I thought it would be time to ask here.

Please help before I kill the pc.

No skype (office PC) doe have Lync on it.

Well this will blow your mind. I took an old excel file from my previous company and hihi it works on that. Now fully amazed I open the normal excel and it does not work. Just to avoid the issue I deleted all the stuff in my previous company file and made it as a template. Revered all shortcuts to it and it works.

I am still puzzled about why 2 workbooks have different settings. Any thoughts?
