TREND and FORECAST - any difference ?

Could anyone explain me in an ease language what's the difference between the TREND and FORECAST-functions ?
I end up with the same result, at least when I register only three arguments in the TREND-function.

Forecast for a single value and trend for multiple values.

    Hi Saturn,
If you are looking for a single value, you'll get the same result. Both use linear regression and least squares to come up with a result

However, TREND is more suited to data points in a series such as a time series, and is capable of computing multiple y values for multiple new x values whereas FORECASTcomputes a single new y value for a single new x value, not necessarily in a series. Not sure if that's any clearer than Spencer's response.
