    Question Calculate Duration & Resources

    Hi,

I have a project that we're hoping to start this week or next week & complete by 12/20/12

    My basic scenario is:

-- Through the WBS (to the left), I may have 300 items to complete & I have an Average Duration that could change in Cell BH 62
-- Based on Average Duration & Quantity, seeking functions that can calculate the Estimated Workdays Needed, then break that down to Estimated Hours & then the # of Individuals
    Needed
-- I think once I have the above, I can graph out a forecast

    Please see example file.

    Thanks for the assistance.

    Re: Calculate Duration & Resources

This is a pretty big request in one chunk. I'm sure you'll get better response if you break down your question into several parts, so that they can be tackled one after the other.

Also, we're happy to help you with your effort, but nobody here will be keen on developing a solution from scratch. This forum is about helping people learn how to use Excel, not a free development service.

Have you started any work on this project yet?
    How far did you get?
    Where are you stuck?

We can help you develop your own code, but if you want someone to code this for you all the way, you should try and find a commercial developer.

    Re: Calculate Duration & Resources

    Hi protonLeah & Others,

Yes - I did start this project or started developing this project plan template. For these questions, I'm seeking to verify forecasted days or hours needed & if that is within or exceeds my target date. If it's over my target date, then develop some type of calculated plan that X number or resources (engineers &/or tech writers) will be needed to meet target date.

Right now, I'm primarily concerned with getting my forecasted days or hours & see if that meets my target dates.

    Thanks

    Re: Calculate Duration & Resources

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I think I want to graph a burn rate or burn down type of chart. Right now, an even distribution will be fine.

I can get the Networkdays or Weeks fairly easily from start to target date. However, I’m struggling to calculate the effort it will take to get the 300 items, averaging 7 days & spread or (graphically) forecast that result out during the 15 or 20 weeks needed. The project is really due at the end of the year, but I’m trying to put some buffer into the schedule.

So let’s say I have Fiscal Week (FW) 32 to FW 48 – Week of Nov. 30th. or have 17 weeks to complete the project, what would be a good function to allocate the 300 deliverables, averaging 7 days each to complete.

    I welcome your suggestions.

    Thanks
