can i have multiple logic functions in one cell?

I am trying to create a workbook for work and have multiple items in a drop down menu to choose from each with a different time requirement. For example if in column A1 i choose, from a drop down menu, a smoke detector. In column A2 i would like the number 5 to be automatically selected. If in the same cell i choose Flow switch i would like the number 2 to be automatically selected. I have approx 10 selections in the drop down menu each with a different multiplier. Not sure that this can be done or not. Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Vince

You need to set up a table somewhere with those 10 selections and the multipliers next to them. Then you could drive the data validation drop-down from the first column of the table and in A2 you could have a VLOOKUP formula to populate the corresponding multiplier automatically.

    Hope this helps.
