You would need to find the list of zip codes and their relevant city/state details in one big list to start with.
Then it really is a simple VLOOKUP.

I found a list of UK postcodes for free online for a similar thing, so perhaps you could find the same for state zip codes out there too?

Here's an example using zip codes I found in about 10 seconds of looking online...

Change the zip code in the yellow cell and hey presto!

thanks for a quick reply, thats pretty much it. I've dug around some more and came to the same conclusion, the example is just icing on the cake ^_^
list of zip codes for US is $40 though, can't seem to find a free one. If anyone that reads this may possibly have a list for North Carolina or know where to get one for cheap, thanks in advance!

Much appreciation for your time, Its for self calculating tax purposes and needed to be by county rather than city, but i realized that the counties with a varying tax are few, and ill get them by hand (:
