    Calculate Rate of Penetration

i need some help. it seems so simple but i just cant get it to work on excel.
the formula i need is : 60 divided by the number of minutes is take to drill one stand of drill pipe multiply by 190' (60/#min * 190)
ive tried =M7/N9*L9 to get my average R.O.P (rate of penetration)
i already have M7 as my 60, N9 i have a formula to get my number of minutes, and L9 i have for my 190
the last two stands of pipe we drilled took us 156 minutes. each are 95' long for a total of 190'. so to calculate my average R.O.P i use the formula stated above. im just trying to incorporate it into an excel file to make it easier. 60/156*190 = 73.07 ft./hr
    any thoughts????????

when i select the cell i want that formula to work in, it gives me a number like 105,230.77 instead of the 73.07

Re: 60 divided by the number of minutes

hey marco i appreciate the info but i have a formula to calculate the time it takes to drill the pipe down. so all i do is input the start time and end time. it gives me the total minutes. so when i try to use that total minutes in my overall formula it still doesnt work. for example... if we started drilling at 14:44 and and finished at 17:06 that gives me 144 mins. so part of my formula is taking 60/144=0.4166 but excel is giving me 608.45

Re: 60 divided by the number of minutes

    17:06 -14:44 =02:22
convert time value 02:22 to minutes multiply by 1440
    02:22 * 1440 =142
    60/142=0.422535211

    Re: Calculate Rate of Penetration

You added your workbook to Post#1 nearly 3hrs after I posted. Why did you add it there and not in Post#5?
ive tried =M7/N9*L9 to get my average R.O.P (rate of penetration)
i already have M7 as my 60, N9 i have a formula to get my number of minutes, and L9 i have for my 190
The problem was with your minutes calculation, not with your R.O.P formula as both kvsrinivasamurthy and I assumed from your question.
