    Conditional find and replace?

Hello, I'm looking to do a find and replace and simplify my data.

I need to make everything one of two words in Column A: Size or Capacity. Which word is dependent on the value in Column B (if inches then size...if not, then capacity).

Problem is, there are a ton of variations through a ton of data.

So, I was thinking an IF THEN or something, I just don't know how to build that function.

Any help is appreciated! Sorry if this has already been answered...didn't get far searching for it.

Is this a one-off task, or something you'll have to do regularly?

If it's a one off then, in a new column, put the formula

(assuming your data start in row 2).

Copy that formula right down the sheet, then cut the answers and paste special|values over the top of the existing column A.

didn't work. returned "capacity" for everything. the value was = "in" not inches. i changed this and still didn't work. don't know if using 2003 makes a difference?

No, should work fine in 2003.

Did you use "in" or "IN"? Because of the UPPER function it will need to be "IN".
