Check box that prompts for password

This is my first visit to this forum and I am nervous that my question will sound dumb but here goes. I have created a check box in a worksheet with C1 as its linked cell. In cell A1 is the formula IF(C1,"0",E1). Is there VBA code that will cause a prompt for password when the check box is checked, requiring that a correct password be entered before returning the "0" value? A password would not be required when un-checking the box. Also, if this can be done how would the prompt appear; a dialog box of some sort? And how do I create that? Sorry to be such a novice!

Fantastic ... thank you Pike! Took some modifying but the example you directed me to worked like a charm.
