I want just the year to update because I look for information in other cells depending on the year. Also look for data based on just the month.

Never use Merged Cells in Excel
I might be way off but can't you just use =TODAY() in Formula? It'll update every time you open the Workbook.

amsanborn: please explain the nature of your issue in the narrative of the post, not just in the attachment. How else is anybody going to benefit from the solutions provided by our expert advisors.
Advisors: please try to provide a few words with your solution, so search engines can pick up the gist of the post.
zbor: although it looks nice, please don't link attachments in-line. Readers of the forum have no idea if the attchment is a 20Kb job or a 2MB killer. Just attach normally and leave them there.

I collect data only based on the year. And other data only by the monthOriginally Posted by prefix
Format the cells you want to custom and type in "yyyy" if you are on the english excel version, then set the formula to =Today() or =Now()
The cell(s) should display the current year now, you can do the same for months. ie, "mmmm" instead of "yyyy" dont include the "" :p
