i have data as follow:

what is the function if I want it to be appear like this..

Are you just counting number of A's, B's, C's ?
How many letters are there to count in total? What are they?
Are the letters and numbers in your samples in separate cells?
Where there is a will there are many ways.

yes i just want to count numbers of A's, B's, C's.
there are 3 letters in the samples A, B and D.
Yes the letters and numbers are in separate cells.

Assuming the items are in A1:P1, try:
adjust as necessary

I noticed you edited your post to say that there are 3 letters A, B, D... there are never any C's or E's?... if not, you can remove those sections from my formula...
