Good morning steliosL
Are you sure you get this message when you try and hide a column? You usually only get it when you try and insert a column and you have an object somewhere around the edge of your spreadsheet. When you try and insert a column the object at the edge of a sheet is shifted right - but can't be shifted off the sheet. Just find and delete the object.

Dear All,
SOS...I get the message "Cannot shift objects off sheet" when trying to insert a row/rows into a simple spreadsheet. How can I fix this?![]()
Thanks.

please read rules for posting, you must start a new thread for your question instead of posting into others thread.
however I give the answer.
press F5 > click Special tab and check Objects from options (it will select objects placed near the boundry of sheet) press Delete.
now insert rows.
(I hope you will read and follow the rules in future)

Hi all,
I have found the solution for this problem for Excel 2007.
The first step is you will need to go to the "Excel Options" -> "Advanced" -> "Display Options for this WorkBook" and click "All" for Shows Objects. Then click "Ok". Now, you will see all the comments. However, the crucial part is the next step.
Next, you need to go to the drop down menu and look for "Review" tag, somewhere in the middle under "Comments" Category, you will see "Show All Comments", click it to hide the comments. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's how you will need to do to hide the comments.
Once done, you will be able to insert and delete rows/columns without problems.
Cheers,
Fred
