I mistakenly posted in the "new to Excel forum", but I was new to this forum, not to Excel. I did not get any replies there, probably because new users would not yet have experienced my problem. The link to my original post is:

Basically a series of worksheets created in Excel 2002 and "protected" can be unprotected in Excel 2002. However when I open this "unprotected" worksheet in Excel 2007, it finds it still has "protection", requiring the password to open. I know my password, so using the transferred worksheets is not the problem. I just want to be able to restore it to the "unprotected" state.

(The same worksheet requires the same password to get by a "reserved by owner....enter password for write access". That is me and uses the same known password).
