Conditional formatting

Sorry....once I get started a thousand things spring to mind. Whilst I am waiting for a response to my other thread perhaps somebody can make me aware of a way around this issue?

I want to colour format cells to their number ranges, as a relative novice with excel I was told to use conditional formatting which I was delighted with until I tried to format a fourth condition...

I was further advised to try a macro and string the formatting code together in VBA but it doesn't serve the same purpose i.e. colour the cell as it is written in and also as a novice the stringing together of two sets of VBA went a little pear shaped...think I was trying to run before I could crawl!!!

Is there a loophole or another way of using conditional formatting with more than 3 conditions?

In Excel 2003 you can only have up to three conditions (four, technically, if you count the default cell formatting). Excel 2007 allows many more.

Using VBA to test the value of the last changed cell would be the only way to have more conditions, but it would not be considered "Conditional Formatting" at that point - you wouldn't be able to edit the rules in the Conditional Format editor if you used VBA to attain more than three formats.
