    Count If problem

    Hi Everyone,

Im new to the site so a big hello from me......

I have a problem........I've just started a job as a high school teacher and my school is a bit behind times when it comes to ICT and are still using paper registrations. So I have developed my own in Excel.

I have used conditional formatting so that when you press p it turns a cell yellow, press L it will turn red and A it will finally turn it Grey. If you haven't guessed already P= present, L= Late and A= Absent.

Now the problem Im having is adding the P's L's and A's together. As you will see from the attachment I have a total for P,L and A for each student, each day and a final for the year. Using CountIf Ive managed to do that but my biggest problem is counting P and L's together because if you are late you are actually still present!!

So when I press L for late I want the cell to turn red and count 1 for late and also 1 for present. Please can you help????

    Thank you
    Stuart
