Change cell colour based on contents of adjacent cell

In cell A1 I have the word Unsold. When I enter a monetary amount in B1, I will also be entering a date in A1 (the date of sale) but I want the cell colour of A1 to change to green as well. Can the colour change in A1 be automatic when I enter the monetary amount in B1? Is it possible to drag or copy the function to subsequent cells in column A?

Yeah, just use conditional formatting referencing the cells you need.

If you want A1 to change color when B1 is changed, then use conditional formatting on A1 an in the formula for the conditions, reference B1.

    Select column A
Go to format > conditional formatting
    Formula is

    =$B1<>""
    Choose the color
    Ok
