    Question Conditional Formating entire rows

    Wondering if anyone can help, I have a conditional format set so that if there is text if column g it will format with a yellow background. However what I really want is for not only the cell in column g to format but instead the entire row. Do I need to add another conditional format? Or can this be done in one step?

    Would greatly appreciate the help!!!!

    Hi,

    You'll need to use the 'Formula Is' option within conditional formatting, not the value. Then simply copy the G cell, select the whole row and Paste Special formats.

    I'm not sure I understand- maybe I didn't explain it properly or your answer is too advanced for me. I have an entire table of data- So far I have it so that if there is text in any cell of column G it will format that cell- however what I want to do this (if there is text in cell g5 format entire row 5 with yellow background and if there is to text format nothing.)

    make sure it is in this format
    =ISTEXT($G$5)
    then copy
    select row or as manycells in row as you want
    paste special formats
    to cover deletion by space bar instead of delete keyput two conditions
    1. =$G$5=" " (format cell no colour)
    2 =ISTEXT($G$5) (format cell yellow)

    i tried doing that- maybe if i explain it better.

    if i enter text into any cell in column g i want the entire row to highlight yellow. (if i enter text into cell g5, i want the entire row of 5 to highlight)

    when i did what you said above only the cell g5 would format and not the entire row. anyone willing to give me more detailed instructions???

    ok I figured out how to apply it to one row to work
    now how do i make it apply to every row so that I don't have to type that formula in for every row
