Time Functions

I have been trying to add up the call durations on a downloaded phone bill. I have formatted the cells as hh:mm:ss as they appear and tried to SUM them changing the format of the *** cell to various variations on [mm]:ss, but whatever I do the answer is always 0 or 0:00 etc etc. What am I doin g wrong??

if the data has been downloaded it may show as text, if the numbers are on the left hand side of the cell its a number, if they are on the right hand side then they are text, if you highlight one of the cells and look for the error checking ! symbol, it should allow you to convert to a number, if you need to do a list of numbers look in the help screen for "Convert numbers stored as text to numbers", once they have been converted they should sum.

If they are text you can try summing them with a formula like this

=SUMPRODUCT(A2:A100+0)

where your times are in A2:A100
